Review The Song (34)Print the Lyrics
And it feels right this time
On his crash course with the big time
Pay no mind to the distant thunder
New Day fills his head with wonder, boy

Says it feels right this time
Turned it 'round and found the right line
“Good day to be alive, sir
Good day to be alive,” he says

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way

Don't it feel right like this
All the pieces fall to his wish
“Suck up for that quick reward, boy
Suck up for that quick reward,” they say

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way
It's coming your way
It's coming your wayaaay oh yeah!
Here it comes

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
Was just a freight train coming your way

Then it comes to be, yeah...

Then it comes to be, yeah...

Then it comes to be, yeah...

Then it comes to be, yeah...

Then it comes to be, yeah.

Then it comes to be, yeah...

Then it comes to be, yeah...

Then it comes to be, yeah!

Review about No Leaf Clover

No Leaf Clover | Reviewer: Zach | 10/10/09

First of all, i wanna start out by saying that this is an awesome song (what i think is one of the best of Metallica's many great songs). It's a song i love listening to because of the cool lyrics and awesome blend of metal and orchestra.

Now here's what i think the meaning of the song is:
The title, of course, plays with the "four leaf clover" belief of good luck. The story is of a guy who is starting out with whatever goal he has in mind, and getting good luck with it. The distant thunder (maybe a forewarning of something unfortunate?) is ignored because of how things seem like they can't go wrong, as each new day passes by with no problem. Things feel right, and they get turned around for the better advantage of the outcome -- when this happens it seems like more of a good day to be alive than usual.

The soothing light at the end of the tunnel is like what you see when your heading toward your goal... but then, it turns out to be a freight train, symbolizing something that is a problem, something that could crush your dreams.

Before you realize this, things still feel right, as all the pieces fall into place. Eventually you become a sucker for a quick reward, however, and may take things for advantage.

That train will come your way, if you're not careful about how you approach your dreams...

So, there it is. That's my interpretation. Hope you like it.

Once again, this is an AWESOME song.

~
God Bless

Still damn good | Reviewer: Not Irish | 7/6/09

I understand what everyone says when they say this song is about not seeing whats in front of you and good luck/bad luck...but to be honest, to ME it reminded me of history. You know back when America was just comig out of the "wild west" era, trains started to be made. And immigration was big. One of the many different peoples that came here were irish. It is documented that immigrants could get no other work than building the railroad tracks. So, that in mind, this song makes me think of a young irish boy working all day on train tracks and daydreaming of getting out of that job and hitting it big, and he sees "the soothing lihgt at the end of the tunnel" but then it justs ends up being "the freight train...". It could be the freight train two ways: both 1)literally the train, or 2) his daydream ends up with him working on the train tracks anyway at the end. Thanks for reading this. Hope it wasnt too far out there.

Simply amazing, just add orchestra. | Reviewer: The Irish Redneck | 6/21/09

Whether the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra is there or not, Metallica still bashes the brains out of our skulls. But some songs aren't complete without the orchestra. "No Leaf Clover" is one of them. I personally dislike orchestra music unless it's in a movie and it sounds good, e.g. the 007 movies. Now I have another reason not to dislike them by listening to this song and the many others.

Many- no, all of the songs in S&M were bettered with the addition of the SFSO. "The Call of Ktulu," (Might I add, there's an incorrection on the CD cover, where it says "The Call of the Ktulu) is one of them. There's also "Of Wolf and Man," "Master of Puppets," and "The Thing That Should Not Be." But I'm getting off track. Back to "No Leaf Clover."

The song is a play on, not commenting the song, but the title. It plays on with a four leaf clover, where the boy is facing a life of good luck, and then the complication, "Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way..." I love the lyrics, I love the guitar, I love it all. Especially the SFSO introduction. I'm glad that this song is seen on Guitar Hero: Metallica, it would have been very incomplete without it. 5*

i agree with all you peoples i am not much of a metallica fan but once i heard this song i just immediately fell in love with it and i listen too it as much as i can and the fact that they were able to mix metal with orcestra was pure genious!!! and like everyone else said it mkaes me want to cry ( even hough i am a boy and i don't cry much) it is still an awwesome song!!!

Awe strucking | Reviewer: B.S. | 2/18/09

this song was just perfection. it was better than anything that ac/dc has came out with (not that thats not a feet metallica has acomplished many times) and blends metal with classical music. metallica created a brand new Genre with this song.

F*ckin awsome_ | Reviewer: YC | 1/12/09

By far one of the best songs of Metallica..I can listen to it on repeat for days, months, years.. !! A PURE MASTERPIECE .. This song teaches to those bastards saying that metal is shit, that actually it can make you cry combining an electric guitar with an orchestra!! .. **********

HOLY SH*T | Reviewer: JP | 12/14/08

This song is the most astounding sont I've ever heard. This song is the pure and utter perfection of Awesomeness. The energy and perfect coalition of Metallica and the SFSO are the reason why it racked up 53 play counts in the first MONTH.
****** (6 stars)

good lord this song kicks ass | Reviewer: Connor S | 10/7/08

This is one of those songs that just SCREAMS perfection every time you play it, the lyrics are puzzling and meaningful, the transitions perfect, and ev-- wait why bother listing whats right with perfection when nothing is wrong
ive had this song on loop in my house for 13 hours and im still enjoying it

PURE EXTREME OWNAGE | Reviewer: Metalhead | 7/29/08

I have recently discovered this song even though ive been a Metallica fan for quite some time. I cant belive i didnt hear this amazing song before. I never thought that it would be possible for a metal band to play with an orchestra, let alone make a song that only works with one. Metallica really has the gift for awsome music and i got to say, this is a pure fckng masterpiece. Honnestly i pefer Master Of Puppets, but this song owns any orchestrated song.

ROCK FCKNG ON METALLICA
LOOKING FORWARD TO DEATH MAGNETIC =D \../

just..wow | Reviewer: rehvs | 7/16/08

this song leaves me in an awed state of mind, i can throw this on repeat for days and never get bored of it, its so deep, it goes from a beautiful chaos to a sort of serenity...simply perfection...
Good day to be alive sir, good day to be alive he said
